12.01.2017 | Tel Aviv District Court Refuses to Order that ISPs Block “Popcorn Time”
The Tel Aviv District Court refused an application by several broadcasters and production companies to order several large ISPs to block access to sites from which file-sharing app “Popcorn Time” can be downloaded.
The court ruled that when the main defendant is unknown, and there is no direct cause of action against the ISPs, the court has no power to order that ISPs block access to internet sites. This ruling is significant in its clear findings about the limits of judicial power to block access to infringing content offered by anonymous operators.
AYR’s Eyal Roy Sage acted for ISPs Partner Communications and 012 Smile.
