On the eve of Yom Hazikaron, Israel’s Memorial Day for Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism, and in preparation for the Yom Kippur War 50th anniversary, we were excited to host a lecture at our firm’s offices, given by Mr. Danny Ben Abu, who fought in the Sinai and was one of the most severely injured soldiers of the war, and who in February this year received the Ministry of Defence Distinguished Rehabilitation Medal.

As a result of his injury, Danny suffered multi-organ damage and burns on his entire body – leaving him severely disabled.  After long months of rehabilitation and countless operations, Danny returned home and married his childhood sweetheart – and together they have three children. Danny worked for the IEC for 35 years, was a member of the Ashdod Municipal Councel and voluntarily held the city’s sports portfolio. He also served as chairman of the Israel Para Sports Association. Danny is a member of the IDF Disabled Organization National Committee, and voluntarily accompanies rehabilitated individuals with their daily contentions.

At the meeting Danny said that the real war is not on the battle field, but facing rehabilitation after being injured. 

We were fortunate to have this meeting with Danny due to his long standing friendship with Adv. Gadi Blusztein, a partner in our firm. The two first met in 1973 when Adv. Blusztein volunterred as a stretcher-bearer at the hospital while still in high school, and 34 years later they met again when Adv. Blusztein served as legal counsel for the Paralympic Committee.
