Adv. Buky Katzman participated in a panel titled “Heckling from the Gallery and Abuse on Social Media: Administering Justice Amid the Noise”, which explored an increasingly pressing question: what happens when legal discourse spills beyond the courtroom and into social media, and how can the independence, standing and public trust in the judicial system be preserved?

During the discussion, Adv. Katzman addressed the growing phenomenon of attacks against the judicial system, both on social media and within courtrooms themselves, and warned of their implications for the rule of law and public confidence in the administration of justice.

ccording to Adv. Katzman, this is a troubling trend that continues to intensify and requires clear and effective action by enforcement authorities. He noted that attacks on the judicial system must not be tolerated and that appropriate enforcement measures are essential to safeguarding the integrity of the legal process.

Adv. Katzman also referred to incidents involving disruptions in courtrooms and the use of cameras during hearings, observing that recent developments warrant renewed consideration of the issue of broadcasting court proceedings and of the appropriate balance between the principle of open justice and the need to ensure orderly, dignified and impartial judicial proceedings free from external influence.

The discussion highlighted one of the central challenges currently facing judicial systems: how to ensure that legal disputes are determined in the courtroom, rather than on social media platforms.
