Dana candidly reflected on the beginning of her professional journey and shared several insights that have guided her throughout the years:
A strong command of the facts, the law and the relevant case law is essential. Equally important, however, is developing a feel for the courtroom: understanding its dynamics, sharpening your instincts, remaining flexible and creative, and knowing when to rely on intuition and sound human judgment.
It is vital to develop a deep understanding of the client and their broader objectives, rather than viewing matters solely through the lens of a single dispute. This enables lawyers to help clients manage risks proactively and avoid them where possible.
Success for a client does not always mean pursuing every available legal avenue to the very end. A good litigator can secure a courtroom victory; an outstanding litigator knows how to achieve the outcome that best serves the client’s overall interests.
